Floating Kites Card

Floating Kites Card

Hi, friends! It’s been a bit since I posted, but life has been busy, as I’m sure you can relate. Today I’m sharing a card featuring a fun, new die set from Spellbinders’ Sky’s the Limit Collection.

Aren’t those kites fun?! They’re from the new Fly a Kite Dies and are just perfect for this time of year. I diecut the kite elements from colored and white cardstocks. Prior to assembling, I inked some of the pieces with coordinating inks to add a bit of dimension.

I really wanted to give the impression that the kites were floating. In order to create that illusion, I glued clear thread to the backs of the assembled kites before attaching them to solid kites cut from white cardstock, securing the thread between the layered diecuts.

To frame my kites, I diecut the largest die from the Notched Corner Frames Dies from a 4 3/4″ x 6 1/8″ panel of white cardstock. I glued the ends of my clear thread to the back of the diecut panel, making sure to keep the threads loose enough for my kites to move. I backed the frame with a layer of foam tape and attached it to a panel of blue cardstock.

I diecut a couple of clouds with the retired Cloud Dreams Dies by Fun Stampers Journey. I added a little ink to the clouds, trimmed them as necessary, and tucked them under the frame. My sentiment is from the Mini Everyday Sentiments Hot Foil Plate & Die. I foiled it with Polished Brass Glimmer Hot Foil, trimmed one end, and adhered it to the background. I finished my card with a scattering of clear confetti.
