Textured Cards with Spellbinders’ Field Notes Collection

Hi there! I’m back with a pair of cards featuring Spellbinders’ new Field Notes Collection. This collection has some wonderful dies and press plates that are perfect for nature or flower lovers.

For my first card, I focused on the Field Notes Wildflowers Dies. Having Scottish heritage, I was particularly drawn to the thistle and tried to replicate the beautiful magenta-hued thistles I found growing in Scotland years ago.

I started by diecutting the thistle dies three times from green and magenta cardstocks. I added darker inks to some of the elements for a bit of dimension before assembling each stem.

For a simple but beautifully textured background, I embossed ivory cardstock with the Field Notes 3D Embossing Folder. Before embossing the cardstock, I diecut a panel with the Nested Postage Labels & Tag Dies. I arranged my stems onto the panel, placing thin 3D foam squares behind each bud and glue on the stems. To create a fuller bouquet, I cut apart one of the stems and added the buds and leaves separately. I created the twine and bow by diecutting brown cardstock with the Field Notes Twine Dies. I wrapped the ends behind my panel and secured the bow with liquid adhesive.

I diecut white cardstock with the Nested Postage Labels Dies and adhered it to a panel of pink cardstock, which I attached to a cardbase. I affixed my embossed panel on top and added a sentiment created with the Must-Have Sentiments Hot Foil Plate & Die Set. I finished my card with a few gold pearls.

My second card features the Lush Ferns BetterPress Plate from the Field Notes Collection. I used the two fern pressplates and two green dye inks to create my background. I added splatters of the green inks, along with some brown, for interest and blended the edges of the panel with brown ink.

I don’t know why, but the ferns got me thinking about mushrooms – maybe because they both tend to grow in the shade. Thus, I created a pair of adorable mushrooms with the Autumn Wonder Dies. I diecut the mushroom pieces from several shades of colored cardstock, added a little ink-blending for dimension, and assembled each with liquid adhesive.

To create the focal panel for the mushrooms, I used the Scallop Labels & Tag Dies. I diecut three of the nested dies from vellum and green and white cardstocks. I stacked the diecuts and adhered them to my card with foam tape. I popped up the mushrooms with thin 3D foam squares.

I diecut a bow with the Field Notes Twine Dies and adhered it to the top of my focal panel. I added a sentiment created with the Must-Have Sentiments Hot Foil Plate & Die Set and finished with a few gold pearls.
